The net, just like the media is filled with the same mundane musical garbage day in and day out. I figured that since I can’t find more than a few decent music and mp3 blogs online, that I’d create one of my own. I am multi eargasmic, so expect Indie, Trip Hop, Grindcore, Emo, Hip Hop, Pop, Metal, Reggae, Experimental, Punk, Folk or any genre that’s still undefined! That having been said, I urge all artists to
with interview requests, mp3 singles that I can post, tour dates or any juicy gossip that you should probably keep to yourself. Now…On to the music!
Election Day With Harry And The Potters & The AKAs
So today is Election Day... it's the day in which us as a nation has the power to replace 1 group of corrupt politicians with another. It's a day in which we aim to put our party's men and women in office without realizing that we'll still be bitching about how messed up America and it's policies are in 3 weeks or less. It's a day in which marijuana may be legalized in Nevada, but I digress. As you know, many bands support political action and I've noticed that a few are even offering some cool rewards for "rocking the vote". Get out there today and vote, and while you're at it, pick up some free music swag for doing so!
Harry And The Potters are urging their fans to vote. Apparently Harry is now old enough to hit the polls, and he and the rest of his band are giving you not 1, but 2 gifts to celebrate this day. The first is an a cappella version of Save Ginny Weasley performed by Dumbledore's Chorus. The second announcement is that tickets for the Yule Balls shows are now on sale:
Tickets for Philadelphia on December 2nd are available online through TicketWeb, and they are also on sale at AKA Music (2nd and Market Sts) or by calling 1-866-468-7619 (toll free).
Tickets for the Middle East shows on December 10th are available through Ticketmaster and in person at the Middle East Box Office in Cambridge (1-7pm). Buy online: Early show | Late Show | BOTH shows
The A.K.A.s are offering some perks if you show them proof that you voted. They want you to use this election as a rejection of George Dubya & all of his "stay the course" cronies. As a little incentive, for each & every one of you who sends them proof that you voted in today's election, they will personally send you an AKAs limited edition 3 button set & sticker. In addition to that, they will pick 5 people at random who will receive a signed copy of White Doves & Smoking Guns. Not a bad deal for taking 30 minutes of your time to vote.
Happy Election Day!
Ahhh...What the hell... Check out the non-a cappella version of Save Ginny Weasley below...But you have to visit their Myspace site to get the special version!
If you're looking for the musical equivalent of a multi-layered wedding cake, than you'd definitely direct your ears, eyes and mouth towards The Oohlas. You'd first direct ears as their sound is layered with tight harmonies, fuzzed instrumentals accompanied by some interesting background noise (as can be heard on The Rapid) and contrast provided by female and male voices. After you are able to open your eyes to see the band, you'll notice that Ollie Stone who plays guitar and is the lead vocalist is absolutely stunning and dresses like a woman would in every hipsters wet dreams. Now assuming that you appreciate good music since you are visiting Daily Eargasm, than I know that it takes much more than a cute singer and snazzy production to give you a true eargasm. That is where the last layer of the cake comes in, which has to do with your mouth. After a few listens to The Oohlas debut album titled Best Stop Pop, your mouth will be plenty busy singing along to the amazing lyrics and poppy choruses.
In what some may consider the glory days of alt rock, no band stood higher than The Pixies. What Kim Deal and Frank Black had (and still kinda do) can be compared to what Ollie Stone, Greg Eklund (former drummer of Everclear who stepped away from the kit) and Mark Eklund have...Wait...Did I just mention 3 vocalists? I sure did, and you can see how the multilayer cake analogy is starting to make a little sense. It'd be a big leap for me to say that The Oohlas resemble anything remotely close to The Pixies, but the similarities are uncanny. Between the pop filled choruses, fuzzed instrumentals and that vocal contrast, I could definitely see fans of The Pixies giving The Oohlas a chance and actually bobbing their heads to it. The fact that there are 3 voices filling up the songs makes it easy for a large fan base to grab hold, since there is something for everyone.
While I liken these cats to The Pixies, I'm not implying that they are a rip off band or riding anybody's coattails. Make no doubt about it, these musicians are definitely offering us all something unique. With the right ears listening and a couple lucky breaks, The Oohlas are a band that we should all hear a lot more of in the near future. So after this long breakdown of who they are, what they stand for and why they ought to change their name to "multi-layered wedding cake", I guess it's time for you to give them a listen:
Golden AX Bring 2 Cities Together With Their New EP
One weekend last march, 3 members of Golden AX decided to take a road trip out to the infamous Sin City, Las Vegas... as you might expect, the trip was full gambling, drinking, and the regular debauchery that happens (and stays) in Las Vegas, but the main purpose of the road trip was to meet up with their singer and LV resident, Mikey Francis, who would be recording and producing their debut EP.
What came of this drunken, blur of a weekend? A bad-ass 6 song debut EP that pushes the boundaries of the rock music world and aims to catch the attention of 2 of the biggest cities in music right now - Vegas and LA.
Long distance relationships aren't always easy, but this group seems to be playing their cards right.... golden ax is jumping into the perfect combination of scenes.... Vegas, home to recent mega-successful artists (namely the Killers and Panic! at the Disco) that seem to have drawn so much national attention to Sin City, and LA, the well-established launching pad for the majority of today's hottest rock bands.
Like many artists starting out these days, the album was done in a home studio. The tracking was done in 3 days, and just like that, the 3 members left as quickly as they came.
"After all the tracking was done, the guys went back to LA, and I was basically rollin' solo in Vegas trying to produce the best damn record I could. I recorded all the vocals and keyboards and then emailed the tracks to the guitarists Cecil who would hit me back with his ideas about the song." It seems like their formula for recording worked well. One of the biggest reasons the songs sound so tight is because singer MF and guitarist Cecil Adams have been writing these songs together for over 2 years. MF travels regularly back and forth between LA and Vegas to write with the band, but recently he has decided to head out to the west coast on a more permanent basis. "Vegas will always be my home town, but right now I want to be out in LA with the band on a full-time basis."
Golden AX's raw rock n' roll wall of sound is influenced by artists like the recently departed noise-rockers Death from Above 1979, Los Angeles thrashers the Bronx, and even Nirvana at times.
The release date of their new EP has not been set, but be on the lookout for the buzzworthy band in the next year. You can hear streaming songs from the EP on their myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/goldenaxslays). In the meantime, here is a FREE DOWNLOAD of their single "Hard To Get". A little something to chew on... the flavor will definitely last.
So being as people are starting to transform into Halloween fanatics, I thought now would be the best time to let you all know what's going on in the world of The Horrors. In case you don't know, these psychobilly garage rockers from London have finally decided to release an EP for all of us in the US. You'd better believe it's wild, insane, creepy and on the border of pure musical hysteria.
If you want to go ahead and pre-order the album up until October 23rd, you'll also get a free 11x17 autographed poster! How much will this little package cost you? Just $5.98 plus shipping! Get your order in fast before these babies are sold out. If you miss this deal, you'll be stuck buying their autographs on Ebay, or having to meet these scary guys in person. After seeing some of their performances, I'd definitely try and steer clear of a face to face confrontation! Just in case you've never heard of these wild guys, check out the stream below this post.
Remember when a person could listen to the New York Dolls and still be part of the "cool" crowd? Well those days are over. After a 30 year hiatus, they came back with a new LP and a cartoon video for Dance Like A Monkey. Is this comeback supposed to be a joke, or are they serious? This sounds and looks like it'd be straight from the soundtrack of the Curious George movie! I guess the 1 upside to this video is that we don't have to see a 90 year old crack head in pink nail polish shaking his shit to some cheap Iggy Pop wannabe track anyway! Here it is for your amusement: Dance Like A Monkey...
